3 Myths of Green Building
There are 3 common myths you’ve likely heard about Green Building; they are in no particular order below. The most often heard myth easily, cost. Green Building is too expensive often being the argument. While green building can cost more, a well designed green building pays itself back almost immediately. Read through some of these below… if you can think of another, email us at sales@beracahhomes.com.
* Cost Myth –
Put simply: some green building components cost more – many cost less. When you properly plan green built home (from the ground up) – and you think about what products will significantly lower future operating costs and maintenance, your end financial cost is much less.
Example: Designed for passive solar, with high performance insulation and high efficiency windows, your home will require a much smaller heat pump or central heating and cooling system. A lower system means lower operating cost per year, and if that system is a geothermal system, there are many more additional benefits.
* Ugly Myth –
People build ugly homes – not green materials. When you build a green built home, it will look just as any other traditional built home; only its performance will differ. You can custom design your home – from plans, from the ground up. If anything, your new green built home will be more beautiful because of the time and care through its planning. And you will have a more fundamental understanding of “how” your home works… and what products are working better than conventional ones… and that beauty you can’t put a value on.
* Doesn’t Work Myth –
In the past, consumers expressed their concerns about overall performance of green building products versus conventional products; low-flow showerheads leak, bamboo floors can warp; CFL bulbs give off a weird light as compared to incandescent. Some complaints have been verified -- but in the overall picture of a green building, these issues are trivial. In recent years, performance has increased tremendously. “Green products” are designed to perform better than conventional products, without the environmental impact. Much as a poor performing conventional product will get pulled off store shelves, so will a green product & so its manufacturer will improve its performance. In the construction of your Green Built Beracah, you’re investing in a more energy efficient, more durable, and less costly to maintain home.
